City commences with resurfacing of Charl Malan Street, Bellville
21 October 2024
The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate advises residents, road users, businesses, and the general public of resurfacing roadworks that has commenced along Charl Malan Street in Bellville. The roadworks started on Sunday, 20 October 2024, along Charl Malan Street between Voortrekker Road and Durban Road. The provisional completion date is 14 November 2024. Work is taking place between 18:00 and 06:00, from Sunday evening to Friday morning, weather permitting and barring any unforeseen delays.
The work includes the resurfacing of all affected roads; raising manhole cover levels and removing and replacing bitumen base layers, and removal and relaying to level isolated sections of existing concrete kerbs and channels.
New road markings will also be applied.
‘The roadworks form part of the City of Cape Town’s Road Infrastructure Management Department’s regular maintenance to prolong the lifespan of the city’s road network. Charl Malan Street is an extremely busy link for commuters needing to access Voortrekker Road and the Bellville train station. This maintenance work is also needed to improve road safety. To avoid creating more congestion during the day and to keep Cape Town moving, we have scheduled night work and will try and complete the project as efficiently as possible,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
The City of Cape Town urges road users to remain vigilant in and around the construction area, and to take note of uneven road surfaces.
